Hikuri, La Cruz, for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday 26th Nov. with

Tuesday, September 29th - Bucerias Charity Night at The Twisted Rose.
The Peace Organization, The Bucerias Bilingual Community Centre and
The Bucerias Library will all be there to raise funds.

The plan is simple.... you come and have a few drinks... and for every liquor purchased, they will give you a token. You then donate that token to the charity of your choice. At the end of the night, The Twisted Rose will pay the various charities 10 pesos for every token they cash in.
The charities are also organizing a raffle and will be selling tickets
at the event and there will be great prizes to be won.

September 15, Mexico Independence Day
El Grito, the celebration of the beginning of the fight for Mexican
independence, will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 15th. Many
restaurants will be having special celebrations on that night. In
Bucerias:
 

The Twisted Rose will have a salsa night. Several officials of the
Bahia de Banderas have been invited to attend. There will be some
events to benefit Manos de Amor, the orphanage in Bucerias. The
rosettes in red, white and green will be sold at 10 pesos each and the
proceeds of those sales will be given to Manos de Amor. I do not have
all the details as plans are still being formulated. There will be
salsa music beginning around 8 p.m. and the televised address of
Presidente Calderon, later in the evening.

At Quinta di Francesco, there will be a Cuban salsa band playing from
about 8 p.m.

Also, Francesco's great Italian food.. The restaurant
will close the following day to re-open in mid October. Francesco
will be going to Vera Cruz to get married, will then return for some
renovations at the restaurant. Congratulations, Francesco and bride!

At El Arryan, in Puerto Vallarta starting at 6:00pm. Enjoy live
Mexican music with Los Frijoleros and win a prize playing Lotería

AAA 3 Diamond restaurant and voted Vallarta’s “Best Mexican
Restaurant” five years in a row, is at 344 Allende, El Centro, just a

For those of you who are not familiar with El Grito, Hidalgo and
several educated criollos were involved in a planned revolt against
the Spanish colonial government, and when the plotters were betrayed,
he declared that war should be waged against the Spaniards. Just
before midnight on September 15, 1810, Hidalgo ordered the church
bells to be rung and gathered his congregation. Flanked by Ignacio
Allende and Juan Aldama, he addressed the people in front of his
church, encouraging them to revolt. The exact words of the speech are
lost; however, a variety of "reconstructed versions" have been
published. Hidalgo is believed to have cried: "Long live Our Lady of
Guadalupe [a symbol of the Amerindians' faith], death to bad
government, and death to the Spaniards!" The Battle of Guanajuato, the
first major engagement of the insurgency, occurred 4 days later.
Mexico's independence would not be recognized by the Spanish crown
until September 27, 1821, after a decade of war.
Each year on the night of September 15, the President of Mexico
re-enacts the event by ringing the bells of the National Palace in
Mexico City. He repeats a cry of patriotism based upon the "Grito de
Dolores" from the balcony of the palace to the assembled crowd in the
Plaza de la Constitución, or Zócalo, one of the largest public plazas
in the world. This event draws up to half a million spectators. On the
dawn of September 16, or Independence Day, the national military
parade starts in the Zócalo, passes the Hidalgo Memorial and ends on
the Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City’s main boulevard. A similar
celebration, albeit on a smaller scale, occurs in cities and towns all
over Mexico. The mayor (or governor, in the case of state capitals),
rings a bell and gives the traditional words.

On Wednesday, September 17, 2009, people around the world are
invited to turn off their lights for ten minutes from 9:50pm to
10:00pm in their local time zone. This is to show solidarity for the
need to conserve and care for the planet.

August 24, 2009 in Bucerias

For those of you who may not have heard, Al Preston died in Mezcales
last Monday, August 17th. Al was known for his excellent carpentry
work here in Bucerias. He was the brother of Buddy Preston, owner of
the Bar Above in centro Bucerias. Fortunately, Al was in the hospital
only a few days and died peacefully. A gathering to celebrate his
life will be held in October or November.

Following is an update on the Food Drive, received from Randy and Sandy Nystrom:This past week, El Fuente church gave out 150 food packages, BBCC gave out 30 packages, and United Women of the Bay handed out 20 packages. Many people were turned away as there weren't enough packages to go around. So, the need is still there. Everyone has told us that the need in September will be even greater as the school year begins. We currently have a total of $16,000 pesos. After this week we will have enough funds for two weeks which only takes us to September 12, Some of the stories we have been hearing are that some families have not eaten in days and drinking only tap water. Also some people are walking for miles just to receive some food to feed their families. Any and all cash donations are still being accepted by all officers of Amigos de Bucerias. All food donations sites are still accepting
anything you can give. There are a couple of new food donation sites.
They are Sandrina's and ACTINVER offices at Plaza Flamingos, Plaza
Santa Maria, and Plaza Marina. Please, lets not have the food drive
"dry up" now as the need appears to be greater than ever.

Pastor Keith, the pastor at La Fuente church is seeking volunteers to
assist in the packaging of food stuffs on Fridays at 5:30 pm, Jalisco time and again on Saturday mornings at 9:30 am for their breakfast for children and distribution of foodstuffs.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  As Pastor Keith said at the Amigos membership
meeting on Saturday, you DO NOT need to be a member of his church to participate and he promises not to try to convince you to join his church.

There is a new tapas restaurant in Nuevo Vallarta, called Quixote's
Tapas Restaurant.  It opened last December.  They will close for the
month of September and re-open Oct. 1st.  Hours are 5-11 p.m., seven
days a week.  Check their website-www.quixotestapas.com -for more

Wherever you are, try to stay cool.  It is extremely hot and humid
here, not typical this early in the year.

July 8th in Bucerias

Shalou's Noodle House, on Lazaro Cardenas, between Fibba and Agustin Melgar, will be open Tue-fri 6:00-10:00, through November 1 .

Dale Lanier died on Sunday. July 5th. There will be a real memorial in
the high season, when many of his friends are back. There will be a
gathering at Bucerias Gardens, in El Centro Bucerias on Thurday, July
9, at 6:00 p.m.

Sergio Santana, attorney who specializes in immigration and real
estate, has opened his new office in Bucerías, street Cuauhtemoc No.

Heriberto is a professional massage therapist who has been going to El
Anclote to do massages for almost 4 years. He has been laid off from
2 resorts, Palladium and 2 RUIs, where he has worked for a long time.,
due to the current economic situation. He has his own bed, linens,
etc. His fee for 1-hour is $500 pesos and for 75 minutes it is $600
pesos. This includes his travel expenses. If you're interested in a
"group" day you can schedule directly with him by calling his cellular
(322-120-6029).

A report on the Food Drive in the North Bay from John Ozzello: A large
amount of food was picked up at the Nuevo Vallarta Yacht Club on
Thursday, July 2nd. Approximately $500 US of food was purchased on
Wednesday at Costco and included such things as Cooking oil, pasta,
maseca, sugar, and other items that the distribution points have said
would be good to get out to people. All of this food was delivered to
the 3 locations. Rosemary, a volunteer is purchasing "fresh" food today for distribution at La Fuente tomorrow. The BBCC contact for the food
drive is MAGO, She can be reached at 329-298-3527. The BBCC is doing
outreach in the East side neighborhoods and identifying people who are
in need. They do not have a specific day where they are distributing
food but are open most days and welcome referrals. Mujeres Unidos
contact is Rebecca and she can be reached at 329-298-1691 and they are doing outreach and distribution on a varied schedule. They also
welcome referrals. La Fuente is located on Salazar Street, off of
Estacion. The contact person is Pastor Keith and he can be reached at
329-298-3748. Their distribution day is Saturday morning from 9:30 to
12:00 or so. They can use your help if you are interested in
volunteering for their breakfast for kids every Saturday morning or
the distribution of food to the families.

Finally, the food drive is going well with an estimated 4-500
individuals having been served. I would like to thank Randy for all of

for their time and efforts and to all the individuals who have donated
food and money. It is great to see Bucerias community come together
for this project.

Art classes with Flor Hernandez will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Amigos de Bucerias has started a food drive to help needy, unemployed
residents of Bucerias. The membership approved the food drive on
Saturday, June 6th at the regular membership meeting. Three local
community based organizations will distribute the collected food. The
3 organizations are Mujeres Unidas por Bahia de Banderas (United Women for Banderas Bay); the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center and  the El Fuente non denominational church located on the East side of town.
The 3 organizations have agreed to interview locals who are in need
and will share a master list of families who have received assistance.
The collection points for the food drive are as follows:

Expressions restaurant located at the corner of Augustin Melgar and
Carmen Serdan
Gringo Bookstore located on Morelos just off Lazaro Cardenas
YoYo Mo’s Pizza and Sports Bar located on Mexico Ave.

Bucerias Bilingual Community Center located on 16 de Septiembre and Matamoros
Amigos is asking that you donate dry beans, rice, bullion cubes, pasta
and flour. The basic items needed for a family to have a good meal.
Amigos will supplement these donations with fresh foods with cash
donations we receive.

Yo Yo Mo's, is excited to announce that they are opening a second
location in Sayulita. They expect to be open for the start of the NFL
season (Sept. 10, 2009), in a highly visable location. They will have
the same menu and sports bar concept. In Bucerias, they are expanding the size of the current premises. Renovation of the adjacent space will begin in August, and should be completed by the beginning of September. A second pool table, more TVs, and additional amusements will be coming with the expansion.

Roberto is no longer the owner of the panaderia italiano, but it is
being run by Leonardo Dalla Fina, who used to own Leonardo's in
Sayulita. The new name is El Fornareto, and instead of telling you
"no hay" , as when we used to go there to try to buy some Italian
bread, Leonardo is making extra loaves for the public Now you can
actually buy rustic Italian bread, foccaccio, frustra, etc., and he
has plans to add a lot of other interesting Italian pani. The address

The Bucerias Bilingual Center will be holding a bazaar on June the
21st, so if you have something that you don't need, that is in good
condition, you can drop them off at the BBCC. Another reminder about
the summer program: the inscription date is June 18th and the
inscription fee is $50 pesos. The cost is $200 pesos per week per
child. There is a scholarship program for those wanting to help a
local child. Starting Friday, June 12, and continuing every Friday, at
8:00pm they will hold a movie night. The cost is 20 pesos and that
includes a small drink and popcorn. Please, if somebody has a white
sheet (for our screen)that you don't use and can donate to the BBCC,
they need it for our movie night and would appreciate the help. They
are still having classes in English and Spanish for those students

Manos de Amor has moved to the new building. We will hold a Grand
Opening later when we have the balance of the things we need. We will be holding a bazaar this Sunday, June 14. If you have things to

May 20 in Bucerias

Not much happening here. The town is very quiet and many restaurants
and hotels are closed. Very bad for the local economy.

Restaurant Ixta, Lazaro Cardenas 500, will be offering complete meal
specials from Wednesday through Saturday nights. All meals include a
soup or salad, and a choice of a main dish, a dessert and either a
beer or a glass of house wine. Wednesdays are Mexican Night,
Thursdays are Italian Night, Fridays are Seafood Night, and Saturdays
are Fillet Mignon Night. The complete meals are 120 pesos, not
including tip. Also, they are offering complete breakfasts for 45
pesos. Beer is always 15 pesos and Lime Margaritas are only 30 pesos.

Eva`s Brickhouse invites you to the "coolest place" in Bucerias.

Banderas Bay Hover Tours is currently offer residents a discount of

Swine Flu Epidemic in Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Check this site for news about Puerto Vallarta and the flu. It needs
to be sent to all the people who are so worried. I keep hearing
rumors about a case or two in Jalisco and Nayarit but there are none
here.

Check this site for an interview with a PV doctor about the flu
problem. Also, just received this news from friends who left from PV airport today:  There is a medical form and exam line.  You must fill out the form and have your temp taken and they look you over before they will stamp your form.  Then, only with that form can you get in the checkin line.

Due to the flu problem, the Altruism Festival has been postponed until further notice. It may be rescheduled later in the year. If you have purchased tickets, please return them to the person you purchased them from to receive a refund.

All the restaurants in the Bahia de Banderas (Riviera Nayarit) have been told to close from today May 1  through the 5th. Apparently, if they open, they risk losing their business license. So, before heading out for dinner somewhere, it would be best to verify that the restaurant is open.

The RECYCLERS of BUCERIAS will hold their first annual “Earth Day Open
House” at the Bucerias Recycling Center. The Open House will be
Wednesday 22 April, from 9:00am - 12:00 pm and again at 5:00 – 7:00 pm
Jalisco time. The Bucerias Recycling Center is located at the corner
of C. Encino and C. Invierno. This “Earth Day” event will focus on
informing the community about recycling, how to become involved and
what the RECYCLERS of BUCERIAS can do to help. There will be: A
special worm farm (vermiculture) display and a demonstration on how to build your own worm composting station; information on organic
composting. They will also be building more recycling canastas to
place on the streets of Bucerias and gathering information about where
they can best serve our community.
Cookies and balloons will be provided for the children. They are
looking for volunteers, either bi-lingual or with some Spanish/English
language skills to help us in passing out information and to gather

Tickets for the Altruism Festival will be available this week

The Annual Altruism Festival will be held at the Casa Magna Marriott
on May 24th, 6-9 p.m. This a three hour festival of great food,
drinks and entertainment. There are 24 charities that share the
proceeds of this event. One of the requirements for the charities is
to sell 50 tickets each. Three charities in the North Bay are
included this year. They are Manos de Amor, the orphanage; Biblioteca
Rey Nayar, the children's library; and PEACE, that does the

April 6 in Bucerias

I just returned from having spent two weeks in Bucerias.  This is the 
third time that I have stayed in Bucerias and am thinking of returning 
next year.  Each year I have eaten at Dugaral's.  However after last 
week's experience, I will never eat there again or recommend the 
restaurant.  The waiters were rude, the service was terrible, the 
lobster was inedible, the price on the bill did not match the price 
listed on the menu and we were charged for drinks that we didn't 
order.  We sent the lobster back and the waiter told us that he tasted 
it and it was good.  As we left the women at the cash table and the 
waiters laughed at us.  This restaurant should not be recommended.

O. KaplanGuadalupe Dipp is holding a cocktail reception to introduce her new
hotel at Los Arroyos Verdes. This will be on April 11th, beginning at
5:30 p.m. Go out Ave. Estaciones, past Las Parotas and the water
treatment plant. Arroyos Verdes is the large development on the left
side of the road.

The famous ¨Tacos on the Street¨ of La Cruz will now have a new
location in Sayulita. It will open on Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun. The
same wonderful Carne Asada Tacos, Flan and also featuring Sandrita´s
Cafe Apple Mango pie. It is located on the new finished boulevard into
town before the bridge.

Frascati Hours for the Holy and Easter Week, Semana Santa and Semana
Pascua (April 4th (Saturday) - 19th (Sunday)) will be from 3 pm
Jalisco time to 11 pm. They are open every day all year round.

Pie In The Sky has their new mini art cakes in beautiful Easter
colors. Although they always have a few on hand, it is best to order
them in advance so you have them ready for your Easter Celebrations.
Remember too Pie In The Sky has happy hour every morning from 9-12,
2x1 on all coffee, tea, and espresso drinks. They are open daily from

Mezzogiorno will be closed from Thursday April 9th, thru Monday April

Care in Mexico and the development of Hospice Care in the Bay of
Banderas . Lisa and John are committed to developing In Home
Hospice Care Services to assure that people in Banderas Bay have
optimal care at the end of life, this will include pain control and
full support for patients and families dealing with a terminal
illness. They intend to develop a non-profit ‘’bilingual,
bicultural’‘ hospice that will provide support for individuals and
their families in their own home. This will take a team of committed
individuals to develop and they are seeking individuals to assist them
in their efforts. They are part of an international movement to see
that all individuals, worldwide have access to this life affirming

furniture and appliances in our current location.  We have been
promised all new items for the new house.  The Grand Opening will be

BBCC End of Season Bazaar:  For many of you, the time is approaching
when you begin to clean out the closets, sort through your many
purchases, pack up and head for home. So, we would like you to think
about recycling some of those items you no longer need by donating
them to the BBCC End of Season Bazaar. We will take  anything that is
in good condition…household items, clothing, furniture, whatever you
care to offer. Drop-offs will be accepted at the BBCC from 10:30 am to
6:30 pm Jalisco, Mondays – Thursdays from March 11th – March 26th. The
bazaar will be held at the BBCC (# 48 Matamoros and 16th de
Septiembre) Sunday March 29th from 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm.  All
proceeds will be used to help cover BBCC operational costs. Any unsold
items will be given to Manos de Amor.

A large (90 lb) shepherd mix that looks just like a wolf (beige and
white) and answers to the name of Lestat. He escaped in the El Tizate
area and might end up on the north side of Bucerias (near Playa de
Huanacaxtle) or in La Cruz. He doesnt bite at all. Any information

and discomfort that often occurs in the dying process. She will also
speak about the bereavement support available for months after the
death of a loved one. Lisa and her husband, John, will outline in this
one hour presentation, what it would take to make this service a
reality in a bilingual, bicultural, non-profit agency. People of all

The Vallarta Chamber Orchestra is rehearsing for their next
performance on March 15. This concert will feature the amazing local
bassoon player, Emilia Torres who will present the first movement of
J.C.Bach's 'Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra'. The orchestra will
also perform Beethoven's First Symphony which is a favorite with
audiences throughout the world. Filling out the program are works by
Verdi, J.S. Bach, Robertson, and Grieg. As a special treat there will
be a performance featuring Vallarta's own flautist, d'Rachael, and
bass player, Doug DeMeerleer, in a jazz duet. The concert will begin

I have debated about sending out this information but, I feel that it
is so horrible that you all should know.  I am not going to name the
individuals involved.  I am sure the local gossip will provide that.
A man, norte americano, who dislikes his neighbors cats because, he
claims, they mess in his yard, took a four month old kitten, wrapped
it in a tarp, stuffed it in a plastic bucket, which he overturned and
placed a brick on top.  He then padlocked his garage and left for a
four day visit to Guadalaraja.  Fortunately, the neighbor, searching
for the kitten heard it crying.  With help, she broke the padlock off
the garage and rescued the kitten, who is apparently doing well.  I
have verified this with the person who was caring for the kitten as
well as various neighbors.  It is not just a rumor.  It is a fact of
one man's inhumanity to a defenseless animal.

“Operation Xcellerator” Cracks Down on Sinaloa Cartel .  755 Members
and Associates of Cartel Arrested to Date; 23 Tons of Narcotics and
over $59 Million in Drug Money Seized Mexico City, February 25, 2009 – Today the U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrests of 52 individuals, bringing the total to 755 members and associates of the Sinaloa Cartel arrested across the U.S. during a multi-agency law enforcement investigation known as “Operation Xcellerator.”
This 21-month operation could not possibly have been done alone,”
said Chargé d’Affaires Leslie Bassett.  “Operation Xcellerator
illustrates the United States and Mexico working together to
strengthen our borders and attack violent criminal drug networks at
every level.  Cracking down on the cartel’s U.S. distribution networks
will have a direct impact on criminals’ ability to sell drugs in the
United States and funnel profits back to Mexico.
“The United States will continue to go after drug traffickers wherever
they operate, through our domestic law enforcement agencies, and by
sharing information with our Mexican counterparts.  Together, Mexico
and the United States will succeed in breaking down the pernicious
criminal networks that threaten both our nations.”

The local Immigration Delegate, Lic. Alejandro Sandoval has agreed to
attend a town meeting at the International Friendship Club, on
Thursday, March 5th, at 9:30 a.m. to provide the "Official
Immigration" position on volunteerism by foreign residents or

Each year a group from Los Mangos RV Park has a hamburger
feast/benefit for Manos de Amor. This year, they were joined by
people from Las Almejas The benefit was very sucessful . It raised
30,000 pesos that will go towards the operating costs of the existing

Last night, during the Bucerias Art Walk, a young Mexican woman was approaching people and asking for donations to help the orphanage. She is not associated with Manos de Amor. We have never asked for donations in this manner. If someone approaches you on the street, or at your home, asking for donations for the orphanage, please tell them NO! None of the money that this woman collected will ever get to the orphanage.

This coming Monday morning, 2 Feb., the RECYCLERS of BUCERIAS are
looking for some volunteers to help out at our Bucerias Recycling
Center. They will need your assistance for 2 hours, 9 am - 11 am
Jalisco time. They are asking for first time volunteers to come and
get to have some dirty hands-on experience at the Bucerias Recycling
Center at C. Encino and C. Invierno.

The Second Annual Benefit for the Turtles of the North Bahia de
Banderas will take place on Sunday, February 15, at the home of
Juanita y Poncho Kearton, in Punta Negra, Nayarit. Brunch will be
served buffet style from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nayarit time. Tickets are
limited, with the price $300 pesos in advance, and $350 pesos at the
door. Champagne mimosas will be sold for $40 pesos. Fantastic
entertainment will be provided by Al Robinson, on the keyboards,
playing and singing your requests.
For 20 years the residents of Playas Punta Negra, Careyero, Malinal,
and Litibu have helped to protect nesting turtles and their eggs from
encroaching development and black market egg thieves. One special man
has made this his life's mission: Licensed Biologist Gilberto Galindo
Castro. With permission from SEMARNAT, the volunteers of Grupo
Ecologico Manos Unidas de Litibu, assist Gilberto in rescuing the
endangered species of Leatherback, Hawksbill, Careryos, and the Olive
Ridley Tortugas. These magnificent creatures are ancestors of
pre-historic times, and have chosen this location to nest and
reproduce future generations. This is not an eco-education program
for tourist, but the real deal: all conditions are natural, with only
minimum human intervention. Biologist Galindo Castro has an
incredible 93% success rate of eggs to hatchlings. Still only 1-3% of
hatchlings survive the walk to the water, the roll of the surf, and
the many predators waiting to eat them as they swim towards the
international currents 2 miles off-shore. From there, they travel the
planet, returning after 8 years to mate and lay eggs. Boat motors,
fish netting, plastic refuse, and development of the coast line are a
constant threat to their survival. The Sun Hill Foundation of New
York and California has generously provided a challenge grant of up to
$2,500 for each dollar contributed to Grupo Ecologico Manos Unidas de
Litibu. So far, they have raised $1,500 from private donors. Please
go and enjoy yourself at this event, and help them meet their goal.

North Bay Community Assistance, helping people and families with
medical and domestic needs in Nayarit, will hold their annual auction
on January 31st at 2:00 pm (Jalisco) at Pub Britannia in La Cruz.
Steve Trempala, from Indiana, a professional auctioneer, will conduct
the auction activities. Good bargains and a good time are guaranteed.

group Tatewari, will be playing rumba flamenco. There´s no cover

Pilates in la Cruz: Greta Ruiz is starting a new season of Mat Pilates
with one hour classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. PV time. The cost is $450 pesos per month or $75 pesos for an individual class, all

The date is Tuesday, January 27, from 6-9 p.m., Jalisco. Los Hombres

Crime in Bucerias Update

Much as we would prefer not to have to say this, there is crime in
Bucerias. I have recently heard of burglaries and an attempted purse
snatching from a moped. I have personally received two extortion
letters demanding a large sum of money. Now, with the carnival in
town, you must be even more careful. Do not carry a lot of money and
credit cards with you. Do not leave cash and jewelry laying around
your house or apartment. Lock your doors and gates, not just at night
or when you are leaving. Do it all the time. If anything bad should
happen, go to the police and to your consular agency.

La Pajarita, this Saturday, January 17th, will have Alfredo and Zoe

The RECYCLERS of BUCERIAS are now taking clear glass bottles,
newspaper and cardboard but only as drop offs at The Bucerias
Recycling Center. The Bucerias Recycling Center is located at the
corner of Invierno and Encino and open for drop off 24/7. Please do
not use the recycling baskets on the streets for your glass! This is
very important! Thank you all for your kind attention.

The Bucerias Art Walk will be this Thursday, the 22nd. Featured this
month are 3 ladies from the Chicago area. Betty Gresham, Pamela
Newberg and Cathy Fischer will be displaying an array of their art at
The Visiting Artists Gallery, number 10 on The Bucerias Art Walk Map.
Watercolors, Acrylics and Giclees are just a few of the mediums
represented.

As you can tell by the canons booming, the week of Our Lady of Peace
has started. This Bucerias celebration will culminate on Sunday the
24th with a procession into the main Plaza. You are all welcomed to
join in this traditional parade through the streets of Bucerias. The
procession will start in front of Mary Paz Abarotes on the corner of
Lazaro Cardenas and Galeana at 7pm (Nayarit). If you have not
participated in this event before, be sure to this time and live a

Manos de Amor held a very successful cocktail party last night and
raised over $20,000 pesos. It was held at the beautiful Condominiums
Los Alebrijes. Lots of wonderful food, good wine and excellent music
by Richard Gordon and Doug DeMeerleer. Many thanks to all of those

Comic, Calvin Coolidge, will appear on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7.00
p.m.(Jalisco) at the Red Apple Place. Calvin Coolidge is one man
entertaiment package. He has been the opening act for numerous

The Litibu Association is holding a meeting on Saturday, January 31,
from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (Nayarit). It will be in Sayulita,
Resturant Si Hay Olitas, across from the Ejido building on Revolution
Street. This is to discuss issues in the Riviera Nayarit. They are

In the Octopus´s Garden at Hikuri, there are three nights of live
music coming up: Thursday, Jan. 15th - Jazz and Blues with the

beautiful Cuban singer Mercedes, with cumbias and salsa; and Saturday, the talented young musicians, TATEWARI, playing rumba flamenca.

Friends were notified of the death, Saturday night, of Jeane Isberg in
Toronto. Jeane and her husband Bill originally came to Mexico on their boat and were then residents of Condo Velmar on Carmen Serdan until the spring of 2005 when her health made it necessary to remain in Canada. She recently had been undergoing chemotherapy
for cancer. Jeane is survived by her husband Bill, four sons and
many grandchildren. Friends remember her as a beautiful woman who loved Mexico, music, books and travel. A memorial tribute to Jeane is being planned for Bucerias friends and those

2009 in Bucerias

Tickets are nearly sold out for the Manos de Amor cocktail party on
Thursday, Jan. 15th. This is your chance to get dressed up, eat some
good food, drink some good wine and listen to great music. The music
will be provided by Richard Gordon, on piano, who has played on stage
and in clubs with numerous jazz groups and given solo performances for
more than four decades. Originally from the Boston area, he moved to
New York City in 1967 and now resides in the Hudson Valley in New York
State. He has played with such jazz notables as Ernie Watts, Sam
Rivers and Calvin Hill.

Noche Mexicana, Wednesday, Jan 14th, 2009, is the night of the 2nd, in
a series of 4, benefits at Philo's. This fiesta will be for the La
Cruz Senior Center. Tickets are 150 pesos. For 150 pesos you get a
delicious Mexican home cooked meal plus a great night of
entertainment, including Mexican folkloric dancing, Al and Zoe's band,
Philo and the Mexican Shuffle Band and a host of other musicians. Get

The Amigos de Bucerias Speaker's Program will present The State of
Real Estate in the North Bay on January 14, at 7 p.m,(Jalisco). This
will be at the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center, Calle 16 de
Septiembre. From the northbound Hwy 200 lateral, turn right at the
Ice House. Go 2 blocks up Matamoros, then turn right at 16 de
Septiembre. The Center is in the middle of the block on your right.

On Saturday, Jan. 3, Willie and Lobo will be performing at 8:00 p.m,

El Buen Vino Wine Bar, now has a Tapas menu available. They are open
from Tuesday to Sunday, evenings at 6 pm. Wine tastings are held on

There will be a New Year's Eve party, with DJ Carlos playing and, a
free champagne toast at midnight.

Another restaurant in town: Los Girasoles, located at Calle Cuauhtemoc
#50A, on the corner of Av. Mexico one block north from the Central
Plaza. The husband is Belgium, Claude Speliers, the wife Mexican.

The new bookstore, just down Las Palmas from the Oxxo, now has
available 2 English language newspapers, on a daily basis: The News

A Hand in the Kitchen Catering will be doing complimentary hors d'
oeuvres at Yo-Yo-Mo's on New Year's Eve. Sandi is also making hors d'
oeuvres at Casabor gallery, Lazaro Cardenas, every second Thursday,

The Amigos de Bucerias are holding their annual meeting, where they
will be electing new officers, on Saturday, Jan. 3rd. A buffet

Rock of Ages, a rock and roll (old style) will be playing at

Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit - Jazz music fans will be treated to three
very magical evenings by renown Jazz Keyboardist and composer, Tom
Coster and friends. Tom played with Carlos Santana in the 70's and
80's and currently is an 18 year member of the jazz group Vital
Information led by former Journey drummer Steve Smith. Tom just
returned from a tour of Japan, playing with drummer Billy Cobham
(Miles Davis) and drummer Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa.) Tom is a member
of the Vallarta Yacht Club. The Jam sessions will be core driven by
Tom on keyboards, Lazaro Poey on drums from Cuba and Marcos Milagres on electric bass from Brazil. Each monthly session will be special,
with local and distant guest musicians jamm'n with Tom & his Friends.
The sessions will be held at the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta
on December 22nd, January 19th and February 16th. All sessions are on

followed by the second and third sets at 7:45 and 9:00 respectively.

Christmas for the children of La Cruz will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22,
at 7 p.m. (Jalisco). The location is the theater of La Marina
Riviera. Music by Philo and the Shuffle Band. The entrance is free to
everybody, but if you want to donate, a $100 pesos ticket gets you
some antojitos mexicanos. The stands for food will be at the malecon
(border walk) next to the amphiteater. There will be more food stands
that are not included with the ticket donation, but the ones included

Renee Traba asked me to publish the information regarding the recent
death of her husband, Jim Traba. Their permanent home is in the
Chicago area, Naperville to be specific. He was 62 when he passed away last week . They bought a condo here in Bucerias in 2001. Renee will be returning to Chicago soon where a memorial service will be held for Jim.

Laura Joachin has taught in some of the most prestigious universities

The second annual Party With A Purpose is set to take place on
Thursday, December 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. The PWAP is a combination
welcome back party for returning Bucerias residents and an opportunity
for service groups to provide information about their organization to
the attendees and a chance for them to generate some revenue from
donations. Profits from the party will be split among the sponsoring
Bucerias community service groups: Amigos de Bucerias, PEACE, Bucerias Children's Library, Bucerias Bilingual Community Center, Beta Sigma Phi, Bucerias Children's Christmas Program, and Mujeres Unidas por Bahia de Banderas. The price is $50 pesos which provides food and one free drink. There will also be entertainment and raffles.
The event will take place behind The Lonely Sock Lavanderia, located
on the Hwy 200 south lateral at the Av. Estaciones traffic light.

The two new managers/cooks at Hikuri, in La Cruz, are Juan and Ana
from Irapuato. They will be open Tuesday through Saturday for
breakfasts, 9 am to 2 p.m. and dinner 6 -11 p.m., with live music on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday they will be open for brunch
9 am to 1 p.m. and closed Monday. The dinner menus (two choices for

.as well as, a special guest of theirs from Germany to sit in and
play, There will be a set menu featuring our Traditional homemade
turkey dinner, as well as appetizers and 5 additional main courses.

Week of October 1 2008 in Bucerias

I could have used the subject "yes, there are angels" but, then, you
might not have read it. Manos de Amor has found an angel. Guadalupe Dipp, who many of you know, has helped many organizations in this area including schools, libraries, etc. Last year, she gave away nearly 200 new computers to schools in the area. She is a well known architect and builder with offices in Mexico and the United States.

We met with her today and Lupe has agreed to match, pesos for peso, or dollar for dollar, every contribution we receive to finish building
the Manos de Amor orphanage. She is in the process of building a new
development on Ave. Estaciones, out beyond Las Parrotas called Casa a la Carta. She is going to divert part of her construction crew to
begin work on our orphanage building, starting tomorrow. Many people
have prayed for this type of assistance but, it is still hard to
believe that it is actually going to happen. For those of you who may

You will read the story of how this began, four
years ago. There are also pictures of the children and of the
construction, to date. We actually started construction in January,
2008, and Lupe predicts that it will be completed in January, 2009.
Now, we ask for your donations, knowing that Lupe will match them.
She has also offered the use of her warehouse in Puerto Vallarta to
store donations of furnishings that can be used in the completed
orphanage.

We cannot begin to express our gratitude to Lupe for her generosity.
