San
Blas a port and a popular tourist destination, is located about 100
miles north of Puerto Vallarta, and 40 miles west of the state
capital Tepic.
San
Blas is known as the port where the Spanish priest Junipero Serra,
'Father' of the California Missions, embarked on his journey north.

The
area is also noted for its surfing, and many beach activities for
the whole family.

The word is that this area has remained virtually undeveloped by the
larger hotels and condominiums that are more prevalent along the
Riviera Nayarit coastline due to the pesky jejeenes or sand flies,
more commonly referred to as no-see-ums.
The VTours crew has spent a good deal of time in San Blas and has
never experienced these bothersome little creatures. They usually
show up in the mornings and late afternoon and are not present if
there is a breeze. Do not allow this hear say to keep you from
visiting San Blas, it is well worth the trip!

San Blas is the northernmost point of a stretch of the
State of Nayarit coastline called the "Riviera Nayarita".
Riveria Nayarit extends south past the towns of Chacala, Los Ayala,
Punta de
Mita and
Nuevo
Vallarta to end at the Río Ameca, just near the border of
Jalisco and just north of
Puerto
Vallarta.
San Blas Tourist Information and Images
You
can drive or stroll through the neighborhoods of San Blas which
still maintains an ambience of a small Mexican seaside town.

The town square, typical of any Mexican plaza with the main church
on one side and the municipal building on the other, is
artfully decorated with colorful blossoming trees and bushes.

The protected inlets are a safe place to lay back on lounge the day
away on your sailboat.

The mocha colored sandy beaches are good for surfing while still
safe enough for the youngest of swimmers and seaside frolickers.

Along the San Blas shoreline you will find open aired palapa style
restaurants, serving up authentic Mexican meals accompanied by cold
cervazas and lucious margaritas.

You can find places to rent beach toys, surf boards and engage
in other water activities. Or you can rent rent horses by the half
hour or longer for yourself or the entire family.
There
are multiple accommodations for your stay in San Blas, including
Palapas along the beach, but so far the area only hosts one or two,
of what could be perceived as a luxury hotel.
San Blas is not Puerto Vallarta! It is far more relaxed and
easy going. A place where you can blend with the locals and have a
wonderful time.

Puerto San Blas Old Fort

High upon a hillside upon your entry to San Blas and to the left are
the ruins of the old fort and church of Puerto San Blas. A wonderful
afternoon outing.
