Welcome to Bucerias!

Bucerias is located less than a half hour from the Puerto Vallarta airport, along highway 200 north. It is just past Mezcales and can be easily missed if you are not familiar with the area, as one town looks the same as the next along this stretch of road.

From hwy 200 you will see the church steeple to the left towards the Bay of Banderas.  In order to make a left in this area of Mexico, you must access the lateral road to the right. A bit strange at first, yet you will find the traffic flows easily in this manner.

In Bucerias you will find the beautiful soft sandy beaches, as well as numerous accommodations for your long or short stay. Bucerias has many hotels and vacation rentals ranging in all prices.

During high season, the rates for hotels start around $65 per night and up and the vacation rental homes are around $135. per night and up. Rates do not normally drop until mid to late April, depending on what week "Semana Santa" falls in the yearly calender.

You will also find an array of homes and or apartments if your time in Bucerias can be extended for a longer term of 4 months or more.
 

The cobblestone streets of Bucerias can be compared to a shopping extravaganza, with  multiple opportunities to bring home a Mexican treasure, from the Huichol Indians selling their amazing beaded work, to decorator items in the exceptionally fine boutiques and art galleries.

There is an Art Walk all along Lazaro Cardenas, one block from the beach see map,  to the main plaza in downtown Bucerias, usually during the month of February.

Some of the best Italian and French restaurants are located in Bucerias. The dining choices range from fine dining  complete with cloth linens and crystals to taco and tamale stands throughout the town and everything in between. There are more than enough choices to satisfy any appetite.
 

You can casually stroll safely through the neighborhoods in the evenings filling your vision with the lovely Mexican architecture and the many homes draped in the indigenous flora and fauna.

The beaches are not crowded, except on those days when yearly special activities are being celebrated, like the Benediction of Bucerias Festival. This lively festivity in Bucerias is when colorfully decorated boats, with balloons and flowers arrive across the bay from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.

These festive boats carry the Virgin to the shores of this little town for the annual blessing of Bucerias, in the church on the main plaza.

You can join in the  procession from the beach to the church in the plaza just a few hundred feet away for the actual benediction and then play with hundreds of others gathered in the surrounding area.

The streets around and near the main town plaza are filled with vendors and entertainment all day and throughout most of the night, continuously for nine days, during this important but festive event.

You can enjoy feasting on the many authentic Mexican dishes and shop to your heart's content. 

The many tourist whom normally spend their days walking the miles of sandy beachfront in Bucerias, gather along the coastline to await the arrival of the boats on this very special day.

You will find  a few more people than usual, as well during "Semana Santa"( Easter week) which lasts for approx. 2 weeks. The week just prior to Easter is usually busier than the week after.

During this time the normally isolated beaches and the town of Bucerias will be hopping with  National Vacationers, lining the shore with camping tents, taco stands and lots of music and fun. Even though it is busy time of the year for Bucerias, you can mingle and enjoy yourself with the many families gathering on the sand for their rest and recreational time.
 

The rest of the year you can easily stroll along the long stretch of beach between Bucerias and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle for some true peace and relaxation. Long strolls are one of the  favorite things to do in this lovely little town bordered on one side by the Bay of Banderas and the other side by the Sierra Madre Mountain range.

There are numerous smaller towns close by, like San Sebastian, in the mountains about an hour and a half drive from Bucerias and San Pancho further north along the coast, that provide wonderful one day adventures.
 

Weddings are a common site on the Bucerias beach. Couples from all over the world opt to happily celebrate their union, especially just as the sun sets over the magnificent Pacific coastline of the Bay of Banderas!

All in all the beautiful beach, coupled with the multiple choices of hotels, resorts, vacation rentals, restaurants and lots of fun activities, makes Bucerias a priority travel destination!
